US 21 and Gilead Road Intersection Improvements

Fast Facts

Project # U-5114
Type: Intersection Improvements
Affected Counties: Mecklenburg
Estimated Cost: $14,725,000

Description

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) plans to make intersection improvements at the intersection of U.S. 21 (Statesville Road) and Gilead Road in Huntersville (Mecklenburg County) near the Wendy’s and BP gas station. This is one of the busiest intersections in this area.

Improvements will include accommodations for bicycles and pedestrians, such as outside lanes on Statesville Road, bike lanes on Gilead Road, sidewalks, pedestrian countdown signals, and refuge islands in medians.

The new intersection will be a median U-turn intersection, which means no left turns are allowed. Instead, drivers will have the option to either travel straight, make a right turn, or make a right turn and then make a U-turn in order to travel left. This type of intersection is expected to improve traffic flow, especially in conjunction with the diverging diamond interchange anticipated at Gilead Road and I-77.

Property Takings

It is estimated that more than 45 parcels of land will be impacted by this project. Currently the NCDOT has set aside $4,150,000 for right-of-way takings. If your property will be affected, contact our team (four of whom previously worked on behalf of the NCDOT) for a free case evaluation.

There are only a handful of attorneys in NC who practice eminent domain exclusively, and even fewer with NCDOT experience. We have several. That’s why its worth getting in touch with us for a free case evaluation.

Here’s how it works:

1) Tell us about your situation.

2) We research your property as needed, using DOT maps, our own technology, and experience to see the exact effects.

3) We let you know what we think a fair offer would be. This evaluation is free, and there’s no
pressure or obligation to hire us after.

But please don’t wait to act. Waiting can hurt your case, and the cost is the same: free.
